Do You Have a Date for This Weekend? Get One Online!
If you don't already have a date for tonight, don't worry – all hope is not lost yet. Online dating is a great way to meet people, find people who are similar to what you are looking for, and get together with others who just want to have fun. Okay, so maybe it's not the way mom met dad, or grandma met grandpa, but it seems like more people are home on their computers than out on the town. So what better place to meet people than the online dating scene? Push aside what your parents or your friends think, there is an increasing number of happy couples out there that actually met through online dating services, chat rooms and forums, and local web communities. Maybe there's someone in your past who you've been thinking about recently.
I'm a Member Already, Now What?
If you're already a member of a dating website, then you may even have a few emails waiting in your box, but you're nervous about answering them. Quite a few people find it easy to sign up, easy to look through the people who match your personality, but have a really tough time knowing what to say when it comes down to contacting someone out of the blue. If they are on a dating website, they are hoping to be contacted. They are not much different than you are, and we no longer live in a world where men always contact the woman first. No matter who you are, you must get up the courage to at least send an email. If you have trouble thinking of what to say, try writing a general email that you send to anyone you are interested in. Make it general enough that you can send it out a few times, and have at it! Just send it away to a few people and see what happens.
Where Else Can I Go?
If you're not already a member of online dating sites, you can check out the singles, or post an ad on local websites as well. Quite a few social networking sites have local communities that you can hook into, and many local sites have message boards or people searching capabilities, so you can look up people in your area. One favorite is Craigslist, in which you can find your local area on the right side of the page. On the left side, you will find links to meeting people in your area under the "Personals" heading. There, you can post your own ad, letting readers know what you are like, and what you are looking for. Or, if you're full of courage, email one of the people that have posted their ad! Plunge – take the chance. Plenty of people are looking for a date, a friend, someone to talk to.
Online Dating Safety
Be safe when meeting people that you have met online. Ideally, you could do a background check on someone you're "online dating". Once you do decide to meet, it's best to meet in a public place, and to let someone else know exactly what time you are meeting this mystery person, and especially - where you will be going. Give an approximate time when you expect to be home, and instructions as to what you want them to do if you don't return on time. Never meet someone alone without anyone knowing that you went. Online dating can be extremely fun, but taking precautions to ensure your safety is a must. There are no chances you should take. Remember, this is not the same way mom met dad, or grandma met grandpa. At least four of the major online dating services use background screening as a regular part of their services. If you're not using their services, it is strongly suggested that you consider getting as much information as you can, to ensure your own safety, and peace of mind.
